Reserving z/OS port range for CoZ Launcher

Post by gngrossi »

I am looking to use system specific port ranges
on our z/OS systems.

Something like this:
SY01=4800-4819
SY02=4820-4839
SY03=4840-4859

Shoule I define these in TCPPARMS (on z/OS) to reserve them?

<port> TCP OMVS

Thanks.

You will need to specify the port ranges to Co:Z (as you have specified), but it is not absolutely necessary for you to reserve them in z/OS. If another job takes a port, then the Co:Z Launcher will use a different port in the range.

That said, it is a good idea to go ahead and reserve these ports so that your port ranges aren't stolen by other jobs, and it also documents the use of the range to anyone else who is looking at TCPPARMS.

What happens when all ports in the range are in use? Is there an informational message issued to know when this occurs?

Thanks.
