In the interest of SHAREing a situation that has occurred in our installation using the java 1.4.2 I'd like to advise users of the following:
1) IBM has this web page for the JVM prereqs: www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/software/java/prereqs14.html
but as we found out, it can get updated after we did an install and we had no way of knowing this.
2) Apparently an enhancement was made in the Garbage Collection processing that requires support in LE and USS thats been shipped via PTFs. We've been putting on PFTs to help deal with a hang/loop situation where GC has everything stopped. This on a z/OS 1.4 sysem with jave 1.4.2.
