JZOS on alphaWorks
JZOS on alphaWorks
This probably sounds like a silly question, but is there any difference between the JZOS you can download from http://jzos.com and the one at http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/zosjavabatchtk? At first I thought it was just a mirror, but I noticed in the alphaWorks "Installation Instructions" it has "Copyright IBM Corp." and indicates a version of 1.2.3 (while the latest version on jzos.com is 1.2.2). Am I making something out of nothing?
Yes, there are differences. The 1.2.3 version on alphaworks has some small changes from the 1.2.2 version. The biggest change is that alphaworks version 1.2.3 supports SDK 5.0 (31-bit). The alphaworks distribution includes a doc/changes.html file which provides more details.
Another new feature in the alphaworks distribution is the inclusion of an extensive user's guide.
The alphaworks distribution is under an IBM license. A press release is forthcoming from IBM to provide more details. We wish we could say more, but suffice it to say that it is all good news for the jzos user community.
