Library Server under JZOS Tomcat

Post by DaveSienkiewicz »

Would it be possible, has anyone perhaps tried to run z/OS Library Server under JZOS/TOMCAT rather than use z/OS HTTPD?
Thanks.

Dave,

In theory, it is probably doable. The z/OS library server manual says that is (optionally)requires GDDM for graphics display, and the XML toolkit for some enhanced navigation. My intuition is that it probably uses CGI calls to run code that adds enhanced (non-static) services.

But you are likely to run into problems with getting it conifigured under Tomcat (getting the GCI stuff setup, recoding any htaccess-like stuff that is HTTPD specific).

In the end, I can't really think of a good reason to want to do this, other than to have a single host:port that does both HTTPD and Tomcat. If that is the case, it might be better to run HTTPD as a hidden proxy in front of Tomcat, and have it host your static content (like z/OS library server). It would really be nice if IBM's HTTPD supported mod-jk connections to back-end servlet engines; this makes for nicer integration than a proxy....

Do you have other reasons (that you can mention) for wanting to do this?
