SFTP features?

Post by usaajrm »

Hi. Can you help me understand Co:Z batch relationship to SFTP. Our network team introduced Co:Z into our organization as an SFTP solution. Fast forward to today, they have relinquished internal ownership of Co:Z to another team. The 2nd team only leverages the fromdsn / todsn capabilities but are now faced with supporting Co:Z sftp. There is a growing interest to return the Co:z back to the network team. The network team is pushing back staying Co:Z runs on top of SFTP. This argument begs the question why did they use/ choose Co:Z specifically for the sftp? Now they are saying their responsibility stops at the sftp session. We definitely press to get their decision background. Can you briefly describe what Co:Z sftp provides beyond another sftp solution?

The Co:Z Toolkit for z/OS is a suite of products for z/OS.
For an overview, see:

I would encourage you to review this overview, since I believe that it answers many of your questions.

Co:Z SFTP, one of these products is an enhanced port of OpenSSH sftp. It can be used as a replacement (superset) of the function provided by IBM z/OS OpenSSH sftp. It relies on IBM z/OS OpenSSH for a secure connection, but not IBM sftp. While the base sftp provided by IBM only supports z/OS UNIX files. Co:Z SFTP provides full support for z/OS data sets. Here is a description of these features:

Co:Z Batch is another element, which is a batch utility that makes it much easier to run UNIX shell scripts in z/OS batch jobsteps.
It provides a friendly, enhanced superset of the function provided by IBM's BPXBATCH utility.
